Welcome to the Hawthorne Public Schools Referendum Homepage
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! As many of you are aware, the official referendum results show that voters have overwhelmingly approved the Hawthorne Public School District's $24.4 Million District-Wide Facilities Referendum Program with 1412 Yes votes (68.7%) and 643 No votes (31.3%).
We are very appreciative of the overwhelming voter support and truly excited about the future of the Hawthorne Public Schools. The items in this referendum will provide much needed facility, safety and security upgrades as well as state of the art educational spaces for students in all five of our schools. On behalf of everyone in the Hawthorne Public Schools, we want to thank our parents and community members for supporting this referendum and the children of this community.
With sincere thanks,
Richard A. Spirito
Superintendent of Schools
INFORMATION REGARDING THE SALE OF THE BONDS
Based on our initial estimates, we had anticipated that the impact on the average assessed home in Hawthorne would be approximately $82.91 per year.
After the sale of the bonds this number ($82.91) decreased due to lower interest rates than anticipated which reduced the overall savings over the life of the bonds. Based on the new interest rate, community members would realize a $13 per year savings and could now expect a yearly impact of $69.91.
However, we were also informed that the savings in the first year would be the largest at a savings of $32.70. Which means the increase to taxes in year one will be $50.21.
